We have written on Internet-related security issues and remain deeply concerned about surfing the web safely. Along these lines, CNet recently published a sobering article on US cyber security. Michael McConnell, executive vice president of Booz Allen Hamilton’s national security business and a former director of national security and national intelligence, noted that “if the nation went to war today in a cyberwar, we would lose. We’re the most vulnerable. We’re the most connected. We have the most to lose.”
Make no mistake: the threats that exist on the Internet are real. As we have noted in the past, even the most cautious web surfers are exposed to various cyber threats. Even a massive corporation like Google can be hacked.
If you think you know better and do not need antivirus software, then maybe you should apply for Michael McConnell’s job. Otherwise, you should take your head out of the sand and secure your Internet connection.
